ABOUT:
The Church of Reset was a movement born out of sheer frustration, and the clan “Church of Reset” is in some ways an afterthought. But its KoL-historical importance should not be underestimated. Late in September 2004, Havoc Jack posted a thread on the forums in which he detailed his plans for a quasi-religious social movement, which would serve several functions. First, he wanted to use it as a platform to advocate for the Reset and to inform new players about it; hence the name. Second, he gave new life to the age-old idea that quest items should be untradable, and (since Jick has rarely commented on this matter) set meat bounties for quest items, hoping to drive their mall prices up to levels that would discourage newbies from merely “buying their way through the game” rather than adventuring for them. Bugmeat, however, was still the rule of the day, and the Church (and Havoc Jack himself) burned hundreds of millions of meat trying to keep mall prices up. The Church lowered its bounties, and still keeps bounties on some items today, but has recognized that a player – based drive to make quest items rare is unfeasible. Furthermore, some weeks after Havoc Jack’s initial push, the semi-official death of the reset was announced. This came as a great blow to the Church, and to many others not familiar with it; while some Churchgoers still openly seek a return to the Reset idea, the main focus of the Church, at this point, is to seek untradability for currently tradable quest items.

Late in October, Havoc Jack formed a clan based around the idea; while not all members of the Church are in the clan, all members of the clan are active participants in the Church, in some way. Over the past months, the Church of Reset thread has perennially been updated with new ideas of how to deal with quest items, reset/ascension discussion, and some highly entertaining pseudo-scripture; it remains the main medium through which the Church is known.

Throughout early 2005, Jick, as part of the evolving ascension testing, began labeling items "quest items" in-game, and flagged them for nontradability. Though belated, the members of the Church rejoiced at the small victory; their main platform had finally been implemented.
MAJOR MEMBERS:
*Havoc Jack (#85461)–Founder of the Church of Reset, both organization and clan.
*Alpaca (#206662)–member and very active participant; official Bridge Burner of the Church of Reset, along with The Mighty Walrus. Later a member of Tempest Fugit and Demonology; former member of Warclan. Alpaca's multi account, Alpaca Oldschool (#279069), was given leadership of the clan after Havoc Jack retired from the game.
*The Mighty Walrus (#186812)–Bridge Burner. Known in the forums as Penguin.
Historiographical Note: Penguin’s October 2004 thread inquiring about the early history of the game inspired Trog Dor’s History of Loathing, which, in turn, inspired these clan histories. The first thread suggesting a game history was posted by LightWolf (#61661) in early September, but was not followed up on
*coot66 (#102795)–clan member; well-known on the forums for his curious posting style. Coot66’s account was deleted by Jick just after Crimbo, 2004, when it was discovered that he had 65 multis, most of which were stooge accounts set up to farm extra Crimbo items.
*the_big_kahuna (#105974)–clan member; well-known forum poster; bane of Scyld.
*Cheesegreetings (#267275)–clan member. Cheesegreetings became an overnight celebrity due to her bold postings as a newbie in the thread that announced the changes to MP restoration items.
*Betrayer (#53804)–Though he was never a member, Betrayer publicly supported the actions of the Church of Reset. See The Rye.
